DAVID TRUBRIDGE

SPIRAL ISLAND LIGHT - Polycarbonate

David Trubridge is a design visionary. His work knows no boundaries. David's stunning light is based on David's Spiral Islands installation that he created for the Milan Furniture Show this year. For Bombay Sapphire David took the same design principle of two interlocking spirals and scaled them up into one large, cloud-like light form measuring 6m long, and up to 2m wide.

The spiral is a universal symbol representing the growth of life, with particular relevance to New Zealand.
It can be seen at every scale from the smallest creature at birth, right up through the vast destructive whirlwind of a cyclone, to whole galaxies.

The light is made from polycarbonate which is hand sanded to create the textured look, and fastened with aluminium rivets. All the polycarbonate can be recycled. The light sources are low energy fluoro tubes and through the plastic they generate a soft overall glow.
